Cameras - Taking a look back in time when it all started with box cameras then onto good old 35 mm film cameras, the days when you finished a reel of film and wind it back into the cartridge and take the film to photo shop and wait to collect the finish pictures hoping that they all come out ok. Dark Room - Some people would be able to develop their own films and pictures in a dark room , removing the film from its cartridge them placing it into a Patterson tank in complete darkness, to develop with certain mixture of chemicals, after this the film would then be cut into strips and placed into a enlarger to expose the image from film onto a photo type paper which would then go through a series of chemical trays and watch the image gradually appear, with its final rinse they would then be hung to dry out, this was quite a lengthy process which in time was speeded up with different automatic equipment. Polaroid Cameras - The polaroid camera was invented making it possible to take a picture then provide an instant image right before your own eyes, although these were quite bulky to use. Compact Cameras - Become a favourite for traveling and moving around being more compact type of cameras that started to become available in different film sizes as well. Disposable Cameras - Along came the disposable cameras and a onetime use, when film come to the end shot and used up you would drop the whole disposable camera into the photo shop to get the photos back, a brilliant piece of kit for the children to have a go at their photography skills at a young age.

Digital Photography

Digital photography is the art and practice of capturing images using digital cameras or devices with image sensors, as opposed to traditional film cameras. It has become the dominant method of photography due to its convenience, cost-effectiveness, and ease of use. Here are key aspects of digital photography: Digital Sensors - Unlike traditional film, digital cameras use sensors (typically CCD or CMOS) to capture light and convert it into electrical signals that are then processed into digital images. The most common sensor types are full-frame, APS-C, and micro four-thirds. Resolution - The resolution of a digital image is typically measured in megapixels (MP). Higher megapixels result in more detail and larger prints but can also require more storage space. Image Formats - Digital photos are typically saved in formats like JPEG, RAW, TIFF, and PNG. RAW files are uncompressed and preserve the most detail, allowing more flexibility during editing, while JPEG files are compressed for easier storage and sharing. Digital Cameras - Digital photography can be done using a wide range of devices, from professional DSLRs and mirrorless cameras to smartphones. DSLR (Digital Single-Lens Reflex) cameras are known for their high-quality images, flexibility with lenses, and manual controls. Mirrorless cameras offer similar image quality but without the mirror mechanism, making them smaller and lighter. Smartphones have increasingly powerful cameras, making them convenient for casual and even professional photography.

Editing and Post-Processing - Digital images can be easily edited using software like Adobe Photoshop, Lightroom, and free alternatives like GIMP. Editing may include adjusting exposure, colour balance, sharpness, cropping, or retouching. Many photographers shoot in RAW format to have more editing latitude, as it preserves more image data than compressed formats. Instant Preview - Unlike film, digital images can be viewed immediately after taking the shot, allowing for quick adjustments. Cost-Effective - There is no need to buy film rolls or develop photos, making it cheaper in the long term. Storage and Sharing - Digital photos can be easily stored on computers, cloud services, or external hard drives and can be shared instantly via the internet. High Dynamic Range (HDR) - Digital photography enables techniques like HDR, which blends multiple exposures to capture greater detail in shadows and highlights. Exposure Triangle - The exposure triangle consists of three elements: aperture, shutter speed, and ISO. Understanding how these interact helps photographers control the exposure of their images. Aperture - The size of the opening in the lens that controls how much light enters the camera. Shutter Speed - The length of time the camera’s shutter is open, determining how motion is captured. ISO - The sensitivity of the image sensor to light, which affects the brightness and noise in the image.

Portrait Photography - Focused on capturing people, often emphasizing facial expressions and emotions. Landscape Photography - Captures natural scenes and wide vistas. Macro Photography - Focuses on photographing very small subjects, often at a close range. Sports Photography - Involves capturing fast action, often requiring fast shutter speeds and specialized lenses. Camera Accessories - Accessories like tripods, flashes, lens filters, and external microphones can enhance the quality of a photographer's work. Lenses are crucial in digital photography, with different types offering varying focal lengths (wide-angle, telephoto) and other capabilities. AI and Computational Photography - Modern cameras, especially in smartphones, use AI to enhance image quality automatically, such as adjusting exposure or improving focus. 3D and VR Photography - Emerging technologies allow for the creation of immersive, 3D images and videos. Digital photography has revolutionized how people capture and share visual memories, providing both professionals and amateurs with powerful tools for creative expression.
